contrary to popular belief not everyone has an innate sense of internal gender or care to have one or seek a name for it, some people go their whole lives without questioning their occupation in one of two gender roles, but for some people, if pressed, they don’t feel that internal sense of ‘i am a woman’ or ‘i am a man’, and in that case i feel the switch over to transgender vs cisgender relies on active identification of a gender other than the one they were assigned. if someone’s like ‘idk dude I just work here’ then that’s valid
A portion of people in the notes are like ‘but that makes you trans. That’s called being agender’ and another portion of people are going ‘this is how the majority of cis ppl feel and it’s NOT agender’ and personally I feel like both of them are missing the point here. Yes a lot of people identify as agender because of this feeling. Yes a lot of people with this same feeling still identify as cis. These are not mutually exclusive experiences and it doesn’t mean the agender people are secretly cis or the cis people are secretly agender. It just means they have very similar experiences of gender that they choose to conceptualize and label differently, and neither of them are mistaken or wrong to do so.
friends, if I can give you one piece of advice for those of you who are new to work, or are about to enter the workforce, especially if you have any sort of office job:
Do not work on your days off.
“But–”
DO NOT WORK ON YOUR DAYS OFF.
Do not work on your breaks
Do not “answer a few emails” on your vacation
Do not work off the clock
Doing this doesn’t reward you with more money or whatever. It rewards you with more work.
You have no idea how important this is until you’ve made a habit of doing it and then realize you’re now expected to be on-call for no on-call pay, or even more respect from your supervisor (in my case, I have less 🙃). If they want you to work outside regular hours, they need to give you that compensation and draw up a new contract.
Recently, while staring far too long at a potato chip, it occurred to me that the ridges could possibly be used to create a lenticular effect. So I got out some chip dip (and the smallest paint brush I have) to test it out. I started with a simple 2-frame illustration of a football and a basketball, then I painted a little sour cream and onion dip bird. 🥔🕊️
people who don’t follow chess I promise this post is really funny
Karpov had cemented his position as the world’s best player and world champion by the time Garry Kasparov arrived on the scene. In their first match, the World Chess Championship 1984 in Moscow, the first player to win six games would win the match. Karpov built a 4–0 lead after nine games. The next 17 games were drawn, setting a record for world title matches, and it took Karpov until game 27 to gain his fifth win. In game 31, Karpov had a winning position but failed to take advantage and settled for a draw. He lost the next game, after which 14 more draws ensued. Karpov held a solidly winning position in Game 41, but again blundered and had to settle for a draw. After Kasparov won games 47 and 48, FIDE President Florencio Campomanes unilaterally terminated the match, citing the players’ health. Karpov is said to have lost 10 kg over the course of the match. The match had lasted an unprecedented five months, with five wins for Karpov, three for Kasparov, and 40 draws.
i know i’ve said this before but i’m going to say it again because the more i work with geriatric women the stronger i feel about the fact that the only anti-aging that women in their 20s/30s should be obsessed with is building strong bones and muscle mass. that’s like the most important thing you can you can do right now to lay a good foundation for healthy aging. you can botox the shit out of your face but that’s not going to do anything to save you from dying prematurely from a fatal hip fracture that you can’t bounce back from because you didn’t do anything to prevent yourself from becoming frail and breakable. like i know that sounds harsh but that is reality for a lot of older women and i don’t want that to be you.
Also, strengthen your back (especially your lower back) and your knees to prevent chronic pain from muscle weakness in those areas, and regularly practice getting up off the floor from a lying position.
Someone told me once that the biggest predictor for healthy aging (absent other internal factors, like cancer or heart disease) was the ability to get up without using your hands. Ever since I’ve practiced to the point that I can get from full prone on the floor to standing without having to push myself up off the floor, and I make sure to do it several times a day. It’s amazing how much more confident I feel about my body and what I can do with it when I have that baseline to fall back on.
